What have you taken for granted?

WHAT HAVE I TAKEN FOR GRANTED?

My list is long:

· Two parents that have always been supportive of me.

· Two siblings that remain in my closest circle of friends

· A life partner, best friend that has loved me for 45 years.

· My health.

· A steady flow of income.

· A plethora of good, tasty, and healthy food.

· Comfortable shelter.

· My freedom and security.

· The change of seasons.

· The beauty in nature that doesn’t amaze me until someone slows me down to soak it in.

Those of us that are goal setters tend to get in the state of focusing on those unmet goals and dreams versus being grateful for what we have experienced and achieved. This can create an unhealthy “reality” of being a failure, jealousy over those with more, and greed. The reality is we’ve been blessed with a lot.

There have been times when I have been forced to see what it would look like without something I have taken for granted: Like experiencing the death of a close loved one; losing power in a cold Michigan winter; having your career position eliminated; and the scarcity of supplies during the early hording stages of the pandemic.

I wish everybody could experience the beauty of a blue Colorado sky, the unreal golden orange color and texture of a slot canyon, or the brilliance of a Northeastern fall color tour.

More importantly, as a human being, I hope everyone experiences the unfailing love of another human being in their lifetime. For that is what I am most grateful for.
